Guided by the DDA

The Australian Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) is a federal law that aims to protect the rights of people with disabilities and promote their full and equal participation in Australian society. The law prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in a range of areas, including employment, education, access to goods and services, accommodation and public transport.

Under the DDA, it is illegal to discriminate against a person with a disability in a range of areas, including employment, education, access to goods and services, accommodation and public transport. The law also requires employers, service providers, and other organizations to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities, such as providing wheelchair ramps or sign language interpreters.

The DDA is enforced by the Australian Human Rights Commission, which has the power to investigate complaints of discrimination and take legal action against individuals or organisations that breach the law. The DDA has been in place since 1992 and has been amended several times since then to strengthen its protections and address new issues related to disability discrimination.
